Flu FAQ's Flu.GOV (English) Flu.GOV (En Español) Flu Guidelines
Parents, it is important to keep your children at home when they are ill. They will get better quicker with proper rest. Sending sick children to school exposes well children to illness. Prolonged illness may lead to secondary infections when the body is already stressed. If we all follow these guidelines, the children will have a healthier learning environment, and fewer absences.
- FEVER- children with temperatures of 100 degrees or more, must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before they may return to school.
- VOMITING AND DIARRHEA- children should be free of diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
- THE FLU- is a contagious disease caused by an influenza virus. It affects the nose, throat, and lungs. It is not the same as a cold and can occur suddenly with the following symptoms:
- HEADACHE - may be sudden and severe
- MUSCLE ACHES - usually are mild to severe
- FATIGUE AND WEAKNESS - can last up to two weeks. Exhaustion can occur suddenly and be extreme
- SORE THROAT - usually
- RUNNY NOSE AND SNEEZING - sometimes
- COUGH - usually and can be severe and last over a week
- COUGHS-usually harmless but teach your children to cover their mouths when coughing and to wash their hands afterward when possible. If the cough is wet or loose watch for difficulty breathing and contact a doctor.

Testing Information
As we head into a new school year, there are many reasons to be proud of what Pea Ridge Schools are accomplishing. Continuing a trend of recent years, Pea Ridge students continue to show improvement in academic achievement. Pea Ridge Schools recently received the results from last year’s standardized testing. Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, schools must demonstrate adequate gains toward the national goal of all students achieving at their appropriate grade levels in math and literacy by 2013-2014. Students who score at proficient are considered to be achieving at their appropriate grade level.
The Pea Ridge school district saw increases in percentages of students scoring advanced or proficient on most areas of the state’s Benchmark and End of Course tests. Pea Ridge scored above the state average in 15 out of 15 tests for Benchmark grades 3-8 and all End of Course tests. Pea Ridge also scored at or above the region average on 11 out of 15 tests for Benchmark and End of Course. Historically, Northwest Arkansas has had the highest regional averages in the state. Pea Ridge Schools continue to move toward excellence. We should be proud of all that our students are achieving. We have great students and personnel with wonderful support from our parents and community. What a great cause for celebration as we kick off a new school year! BenchMark and EOC Results 2008
